What Is The Definition Trap Shooting?
Trap shooting is a sport where clay pigeons, or bird targets, are launched into the air from a trap machine. Competitors take turns shooting at the targets as they fly away. The objective is to shoot as many clay pigeons as possible before they reach the ground. There are different types of trap shooting, such as singles, doubles, and handicap.
In singles, each competitor takes one shot at a time. In doubles, two competitors take two shots each at two clay pigeons. In handicap shooting, the competitors start with different point values assigned to them according to their ability. The lower the number, the better the shooter’s skill level. Layouts of trap shooting fields are different from that of other shooting sports like skeet field and sporting clays.
What Is The History Of Trap Shooting?
The history of trap shooting dates back to the early 1800s when live pigeons were used as targets. It was originally intended to be a way for hunters to practice.
The first organized competitions were held in England in 1873. Trap shooting as we know it began to take form in the United States in the 1880s when traps that launched clay targets into the air were developed. One of the targets used in trap shooting games is called clay pigeons. The first Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) national championship was held in 1923.
How Does Competitive Trap Shooting Work?
Competitive trap shooting is governed by the rules of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). Competitions are typically held at either a registered or certified ATA trap range. There are five major events during an ATA-registered shoot: singles, doubles, handicap, universal pot, and team competition. In each event, shooters attempt to break a certain number of targets as prescribed by the tournament conditions. Competitive trap shooting is a great way to improve your shooting skills.
