third base coach
What Is The Definition Of Third Base Coach In Baseball?
1. A third base coach is a coach who is positioned on the field and next to third base. The coach is stationed in a box located outside the playing field and next to third base, however, is allowed to be outside the box to give signals and direct baserunners as long as the coach does not interfere with the play.
The primary duties of the coach is to direct and signal the baserunners, mainly the runners on second base and third base, and also give signs to the current batter. When baserunners are rounding second and/or third base, their primary job is to watch the third base coach to see if they are to advance or stop at a given base, as it is the third base coach who serves as their eyes and watches what happens with the ball during the play.
