What Is The Definition Of Pebble In Curling?
1. A pebble is a fine water spray applied to the sheet of curling ice before the start of game. Its purpose is to cause irregularities on the ice surface in order to make the stones slide on a rough surface, therefore making the stones “curl.”
The droplets of water onto the ice are sprayed from a special canister that make the “pebbles” a certain size and pattern. Without the pebbles of water on the ice, there would be too much friction between the stone and the ice, therefore making it hard for the stones to travel down the sheet of ice.
