own goal
What Is The Definition Of Own Goal In Soccer?
1. An own goal in soccer occurs when a defensive player puts the ball in their own goal, therefore scoring a goal for the opposing team. This action is usually done accidentally and often occurs when a player is trying to clear the ball away from their own net.
Although the own goal is credited to the other team on the scoreboard, the player who put the ball into their own net is still credited with the goal. However, in the scoresheet it is labeled as “OG” to signify it as an own goal.
