1 2 3 dou*ble play
What Is The Definition Of A 1-2-3 Double Play In Baseball?
1. This form of a double play most often occurs when the bases are loaded and there’s a force out opportunity at home plate. Therefore, when a ground ball or bunt is hit at the pitcher (1), the pitcher then fields the ball and throws it to the catcher at home plate (2) for the force out, who then relays the final throw to first base (3) for the second out of the double play.
The notation of 1-2-3 is to show who handled the ball on the play.
