What Is The Definition Of Mankad In Cricket?
1. When a non-striking batsman is run out for leaving the crease before the bowler releases the ball for the delivery. It occurs much more commonly in indoor cricket as opposed to first-class cricket. The name comes from Vinoo Mankad, an Indian bowler who famously used this strategy to dismiss an opponent in a 1947 Test match. When a batsman is dismissed in this manner, he is said to have been “Mankaded.”
