1. A J-stroke is considered an emergency type of play in volleyball. This happens when a player is either running or diving towards the ball and, usually with one hand, has to reach-out in front of themselves to make contact with the ball. While attempting to make contact, the player swings their arm in a motion that looks like a ‘J’ in order to hit the ball over their head.
