free play
What Is The Definition Of Free Play In Football?
1. A free play is a term used to describe when the defensive team jumps offside, therefore giving the offensive a chance to run any play that they’d prefer. It’s referred to as a “free play”, because the offense can run any play without the fear of committing a turnover because if even they do, the turnover will not be upheld and defensive offside would instead be called. Because of this, the offense will usually take a chance with a deep pass on a free play in an attempt for a large gain or touchdown.
