foul out
What Is The Definition Of Foul Out In Baseball?
1. A foul out in baseball is a type of putout where a pop fly is caught in foul territory.
This type of out can only occur if the ball is caught while still in flight in foul territory. If it touches the ground at all before being caught, it cannot be a foul out, but is still called foul and the batter is allowed to resume their at-bat.
This is different from a foul tip, where the batter fouls the ball directly back into the catcher’s mitt.
