drag bunt
What Is The Definition Of Drag Bunt In Baseball?
1. A drag bunt is a type of bunt that is usually attempted by a left-handed hitter who is moving towards first base and will attempt to “drag” or “pull” the ball with them down the first base line.
Unlike most other bunts, which are done as sacrifices in order to advance a runner to the next base, a batter’s main agenda for a drag bunt is to get a hit. Drag bunts are attempted more by left-handed hitters because they can begin moving towards first base before the ball crosses the plate. A right-handed hitter runs the risk of getting hit by the pitch if they try to move towards first before the ball crosses the plate. The extra one or two seconds that a batter can get by moving towards first base on a drag bunt is a lot of time when they are trying to beat out a throw.
