down screen
What Is The Definition Of Down Screen In Basketball?
1. A down screen occurs when one offensive player chooses a spot on the baseline, and a second offensive player sets the screen near the first player facing the baseline.
The first offensive player separates themselves from the defensive player with a fake towards the defensive player then runs the opposite direction around the screening teammate. This action forces the defensive player towards the screen, causing them to go around the back. Once the player creates space, they need to be ready to shoot.
Creating space for an offensive player to shoot is the goal of a down screen.
