What Is The Definition Of Caught Napping In Baseball?
1. This is a term used when a baserunner is tagged out by a defensive player because they weren’t paying attention to their surroundings. The baserunner is usually “caught napping” on a pickoff play where a defensive player will sneak up behind the defender, receives the throw from the pitcher and tags the runner out.
Another way to get a putout by “catching the runner napping”, would be to receive a throw from the catcher, but this is not as common method.
