Definition Of Braking Stretch
1. The braking stretch is the long, straight away section of the bobsled track where the brakes are applied. This section is just beyond the finish line where the brakes are applied by the brakeman in order to slow down and have the sled come to a complete stop.
In order to assist with slowing down and stopping, the braking stretch may also have “fresh snow” or foam pads on the track.
Examples Of Braking Stretch
1. Snow sprays from both sides of the sled and the runners, as the brakeman applies the brakes at the end of the course in the braking stretch.
