The signal-caller was drafted out of Southern Mississippi in 1991 by the Atlanta Falcons but saw no meaningful playing time. In addition, his brash personality clashed with other players and the coaching staff. His initial contract with Atlanta was a three-year deal worth $1.3 million, but that didn’t last long. Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers in 1992 and stayed in Wisconsin until 2010.
In Green Bay, Favre would rocket to stardom, destroying many passing records for both the team and the NFL. Nicknamed the Gunslinger for his speedy passes that would frequently test the bones of his receivers, Favre took chances all over the field, often racking up interceptions in the process. With Favre at the helm of a high-powered offense, he steered the team to seven division titles, reached six NFC title games, and appeared in two Super Bowls in 1996 and 1997, winning the first against the New England Patriots. After the inability to nail down a retirement timeline, he formally filed for retirement in 2007, and the Packers agreed it was best to part ways.
Favre came out of retirement and was signed by an eager New York Jets squad looking for relevance. After one year there, the Jets released Favre and he went on to play two more seasons with the Packers hated divisional rival, Minnesota Vikings, taking the team to the cusp of a Super Bowl with an NFC title game appearance in 2009, losing to the eventual champions, New Orleans Saints.
