Although there are some who thought that Phelps would win the race, the 28-time Olympic medalist lost the 100-meter race in cold waters to a great white shark by only 2-seconds.
For those of you who thought that Phelps would actually swam side-by-side next to the shark, sorry to disappoint. The shark’s time was based on the Discovery Channel’s research of the shark’s time over that distance (at a top rate of 25 mph) and then a CGI image of the shark was inserted into the video.
The race was a promotion by The Discovery Channel to kick off this year’s Shark Week.
