The NFL Draft finally went underway today and thank goodness it did because if I read one more Mock Draft board, I’m going to flip out.
Okay, now that that’s out of my system, to no one’s surprise, Jadeveon Clowney went first overall to the Houston Texans, giving the team a freakish front-line that pairs him with J.J. Watts. That’s going to be fun to watch.
In other news, it looked like Johnny Manziel was this year’s Aaron Rodgers.
The camera seemed to stay with him during his long stay in the blue room, watching his every move and twitch. After the Jaguars and Browns both passed on him early in the round, you knew he was going to be sitting a while.
Eventually he was picked by Cleveland at 22, who traded up with Philadelphia to get him.
The thing that gets me is, what was with the whole ‘finger-rubbing-show-me-the-money” antic that Manziel has done all season. You were picked at 22. You were passed over by almost all the teams, and you were the second quarterback taken. There’s nothing to be showing off about. Just be proud you got drafted in the first round.
I get that you want your quarterback to be confident, but it’s those antics that some may call arrogance and immaturity. Guess we’ll have to see when the season starts if it was worth giving up draft picks for him.
Although the team did get better at the position. The bigger question is: how much better did they get?
