I found myself a bit confused when I was watching the Miami Heat/Brooklyn Nets game tonight.
I was confused because either I had a really bad case of food poisoning tonight and the names on the players’ jerseys were changing on their own, or the NBA had changed the names of the players for some silly nicknames.
Thank the Lord, I didn’t have bad sushi.
So apparently back in January, the NBA announced this whole fiasco and I didn’t catch any wind of this until seeing it with my own eyes. Apparently ESPN even had a whole list of the nicknames. Some of the names are pretty easy to figure out, for instance LeBron James’ name is “King James”. But unless Joel Anthony has a PhD, I don’t get why his name is “Doc”.
I’m still not sure what the whole point of this is, and as I sit here watching the Lakers/Rockets, it seems that only the Heat and Nets are playing with these jerseys.
Didn’t the NBA learn from “He Hate Me” and the XFL? Don’t answer that.
And I refuse to believe that Ray Allen’s name is “J. Shuttlesworth”.
Nope. I refuse to believe that Allen’s nickname sounds like a character from Harry Potter. I will not accept this.
