Sometimes, the brain of the average American sports fan worry me.
A recent poll showed that 77 percent of NBA fans believe that Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all-time. That statistic doesn’t bother me, and I’m happy with that figure.
But in the same poll, a whopping 34 percent of fans believe that Michael Jordan (at 52 years old) would beat LeBron James at 1-on-1 today. And only 54 percent believe that James would win in the match-up.
Look, I’m a huge MJ nut. But I’m also a realist. Although MJ can still play and talk trash against many NBA players today, I also accept the fact that he’s no longer the greatest on the planet.
James averaged 25 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds a game and is still in the prime of his career. If James took the court against His Airness, all he’d have to do is use his size and speed to truck through Jordan. I’m also a realist that a 50-plus year old man can only take so many charges before he breaks a hip.
