The Carmelo Anthony saga may finally be over.
The Portland Trail Blazers have announced that they have their new forward and that Anthony will play Tuesday night versus the New Orleans Pelicans. Anthony, who hasn’t played since Nov. 8, 2018 when he was with the Houston Rockets, will wear No. 00.
Anthony is expected to play a key role for the Blazers, providing help at the forward position where the Blazers have lacked this season. In his 16 seasons, Anthony has averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists, so he’s more than qualified to play the role. However, at 35, he will not be a focal point of an offense that he is accustomed too, as the Blazers already have stars in Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.
Among active players with at least 200 games, Anthony is ranked fourth all-time in career points. He will have a base salary of $2.159 million this season, and it can become fully guaranteed if he’s still on the roster on January 7, at 5 p.m.
