Kris Bryant may want to add “actor” to his resume.
The reigning NL Rookie of the Year put on a little performance recently, posing as a late college transfer to the Mesa Community College baseball team. Bryant’s alias during prank: Roy Nabryt. If you look closely, “Roy” stands for Rookie Of the Year and Nabryt is a just a jumble of his last name Bryant. Hey, it sounds European.
The head coach over at Mesa, Tony Cirelli, was in on the gig and set it up perfectly, letting the team know that a “big donkey” with “crazy power” would be joining the team and taking at-bats away from some guys and even some innings.
You can guess, this didn’t sit well with a team already sitting in first place. Cameras, who have been there all week filming the team, captured some great audio from team members. As you predicted, they were both nervous and pissed that a new guy was coming in this late to the season.
It didn’t take the guys very long to realize who the newcomer was after he took some swings in the cage. A ball doesn’t just jump off anyone’s bat, like the way it does off Bryant’s.
