The away team bats first in baseball. In other words, the team that is visiting the other team’s home ballpark bats at the top of each inning. The home team bats second in what is called the bottom of the inning.
It is considered an advantage for the home team to bat second. The home team always gets the final at-bat of the game. If they’re winning after the top of the ninth inning, they don’t have to bat at all.
